This is one of the favorites!  It was the second painting I created in the series and a dramatic contrast to the first, which was SUMMER,  It also turned out to be the most challenging - painting winter is truly a lesson in white!  I really had to strive to find just the right tones so they wouldn't overpower the feeling of a cold, quiet winter day.  I reworked the sky several times before those faint touches of blue finally felt right against the soft gray clouds. 

In the end, this became one of the most peaceful scenes in the collection, and I love how the Marblehead Lighthouse stands so calm and strong in the winter season.
